Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Community Update

To the Riverdale Community,
We know everyone is concerned about the reported incidence of COVID19 in our communities. We join in praying for the complete and speedy recovery of those infected.
The situation is continuously evolving. Hatzalah has been coordinating our preparations with city agencies and community institutions.
Hatzalah wanted to share some recommendations and best practices for the community during this time.

We believe these are some common sense, good judgement actions we can all take:

  • Be thoughtful about touching your face with unwashed hands.

  • Try to avoid touching your mouth or eyes with unwashed hands.

  • We recommend avoiding handshakes and unnecessary physical contact.

  • Wash your hands with soap regularly, especially when arriving home and before meals.

  • Use hand sanitizer regularly (alcohol based is best).

  • Get your flu shot if you haven't yet.

  • Cover your sneeze or cough with a tissue or sleeve, do not use your hands.

  • Consult your Rav about avoiding kissing mezuzot or Sifrei Torah.

Symptoms and Manifestation

  • COVID19 manifests itself like the typical flu or respiratory infection.

  • Cough, fever, sneezing and shortness of breath could be symptoms to be concerned about.

  • If you are sick, stay home and seek medical attention.

  • Do not go to work.

  • Do not go to shul (contact your Rav for specific questions about Parshat Zachor or Megillah). Shuls are making alternate arrangements for both readings in this sub-optimal situation.

  • Contact your Rav for specific kaddish and/or mikva guidance.

  • If you would normally call Hatzalah for the symptoms you have, call Hatzalah (718-230-1000) and make your symptoms clear to the dispatcher so we can be prepared to properly care for you.

  • If you would normally call your doctor for the symptoms you have, call your doctor.

Thanks to your support, Riverdale Hatzalah is prepared to serve our community and respond to emergencies related to COVID19. As always, we hope and pray that our services go unneeded.

Please consider donating to ensure we have the supplies to continue to protect the community!
